We Wear Many Hats in This Life...

I went to Grantama and Granpa's house for Christmas. I tried on Grandpa's crazy Russian-style hat.

Little V in the Big City

Almost every year since we've known each other, JD and I have picked a night during the weeks leading up to Christmas to head downtown to the flagship Neiman Marcus store to check out their Christmas lights and their big tree. So before Little V's introduction to Santa, she had her first stroll in the Big City. Here are some pics.

Week 22

Feeling a little under the weather this week with her first cold. 'Tis the season...

Meeting Santa For the First Time

Things were going okay... Little V was a bit skeptical of the photographer's attempts to make her smile. She's seen those tricks before...

Then she looked to her left and noticed Santa. Game. Over.

Merry Christmas!

First Taste

Tonight, Violet had her first taste of 'solid' (non-cereal) food - (organic) butternut squash. I think she really liked it.

All Around Fun

Violet took right to her new "ExcerSaucer". She has a blast in that thing. (It's also been a big help to Mom.)

Week 20

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

Give Me That Thing, Dad

Today for the first time, I grabbed the bottle out of Dad's hands and held it myself. I drained that sucker dry.

Backyardigans

We took advantage of the nice weather (80°F) and played with the camera in the backyard after our weekly violet photo shoot...

First Solid Food

It was no steak and potatoes (organic rice cereal, actually), but one thing is for sure: This little girl enjoys a good solid meal. Here she is enjoying her first:

"...not sure what's going on, but I've seen mom and dad do it and I think i like it..."

"...YUM!!!"

"...next time mom and dad should use a bib..."

F8 Photo Shoot

We had our first professional photo shoot with Brenda over at F8 Studios. We had a great time tromping around Addison Circle (near their offices) and are really happy with the end result.

Brenda did a nice post about shooting us over on the F8 Kids Blog.

She's Getting More and More Like Her Dad

Uh oh. She's developed a fondness for putting her foot in her mouth...

Week 18

Rolling over!

Rockin' and a Rollin'

Little V learned how to roll over about a week ago. It was tough to capture on video because it required so much effort on her part and occurred so infrequently at first. Now, it's constant. Anytime you lay her down, bam! Over she rolls. And though it has only been a week, we're beginning to see her pull her legs up under her tummy and thrust forward. We'll call it the "crawl instinct". She's got the roll. Now, she's ready to rock (by which I mean crawl...)!

Sittin' Pretty

Today Violet sat in her Bumbo seat for the first time. She seemed very comfortable and, well, pretty happy about having a new view of the world.

reluctant red raider

Although the Red Raiders seem to be experiencing some hiccups this football season, Violet is still a strong supporter of her mom's alma mater. Her Uncle Clint and Auntie Angie brought her this hat direct from Lubbock, and she's sporting it proudly. Go Red Raiders!

three months

Today Violet is three months old, and I can't believe how fast she's growing and how time seems to be flying by. Everyone told us it would be like this, but it's really hard to understand until it's actually happening. In honor of her three month birthday, I decided to start a quarterly post so we can remember some of what she's doing at the time:

- She's smiling, laughing and mimics sounds
- She can follow small objects in front of her, and can grab for them
- She can roll on her side, and is working on rolling onto her stomach, but her arm gets in the way
- She seems to have very strong legs, and can stand up straight on them with just a little assistance
- She's still sleeping swaddled. Some days she sleeps until 5 or 6am, some days she does a 2 or 3 am wakeup. She also naps a few times a day, but usually not for more than 30 minutes at a time

This weekend, my oldest friend is coming in town with her husband and we're planning on taking Violet to the State Fair of Texas. She hasn't seen her since we brought her home from the hospital, so I can't wait to see her reaction. Happy Weekend!

Week 12

saturday in the park

Little V had her first trip to the neighborhood park this weekend, and really seemed to like it (as did Pete). Although she's got a little while to go until she'll be sliding down the slide or partaking in the swings, she loves to be outside and look up at the trees. We're so glad Fall is finally here!

Week 10

Baptism

Violet with her parents and godparents

With Monsignor Zimmerman, who was also the officiant at our wedding

Violet had her Baptism last Sunday at Christ the King, and didn't cry one bit, not even when she got water poured in her eye. She also was a trooper at dinner as she was passed around from family member to family member who were all eager to get in some quality time. We are really so lucky to have such a well-behaved little girl!
